What we collect, and why.
A plain-language account of the information this site handles. No dark patterns, no selling your data, no surprises.
The short version
We collect what we need to run the site, answer your messages, and register you for a workshop. We don't sell your information, we don't run ad networks, and we don't build profiles on you.
If you'd rather just ask us something directly, email stephen@illumined.io.
When you browse the site
We use Google Analytics to see which pages people visit and how they got here. It sets cookies and records things like your approximate location, browser, device, and the pages you view. We use it in aggregate, to understand what's working, not to identify you.
Analytics does not load until you accept it. We ask once, on your first visit, and the site behaves exactly the same whichever way you answer. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal we treat that as a no and don't ask at all.
You can change your mind whenever you like using the "Cookie choices" link in the footer. Declining after you've accepted also clears the analytics cookies already on your device.
Our host records standard server logs, including IP addresses, as part of serving and protecting the site. That happens for everyone, because it's how the site gets delivered and defended, and it isn't used to track you around the web.
When you contact us or join the waitlist
The contact form collects your name, email address, the topic you pick, and your message. The waitlist form collects your email address only.
These go through Formspree, which passes them to our inbox. We use them to reply to you and, for the waitlist, to email you when a new workshop date opens. We don't add you to a general marketing list, and every waitlist email has an unsubscribe option.
When you register for a workshop
Checkout runs on Stripe. Stripe collects your email address, name, billing address, the attendee's name, and — for the in-person session — any dietary needs you tell us about.
Your card details go directly to Stripe. We never see or store them.
We use this to confirm your seat, send workshop materials and joining details, cater the in-person session, and keep records for accounting and tax.
During and after the workshop
Virtual sessions run on Zoom, which processes your name and connection details while you're in the meeting.
Attendees are invited to our private Slack community. Joining is optional, and Slack holds whatever you post there.
We may ask for feedback afterwards. Sharing a quote we can publish is optional, and we'll ask before attributing anything to you by name.
Who else processes your information
We rely on a small number of services to operate: Netlify for hosting, Google Analytics for site measurement, Formspree for form delivery, Stripe for payments, Zoom for virtual sessions, and Slack for the attendee community.
Each handles data under its own privacy terms and only for the purpose above. We don't share your information with anyone else, and we don't sell it.
How long we keep things
Payment and registration records are kept as long as accounting and tax rules require. Correspondence and waitlist entries are kept until they're no longer useful or you ask us to remove them. Analytics data expires on Google's retention schedule.
Your choices
Email stephen@illumined.io and you can ask us what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. We'll do it, subject to records we're legally required to keep, such as proof of a payment.
You can unsubscribe from waitlist emails at any time, and leave the Slack community whenever you like.
Children
This site and our workshops are meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children. Our K-12 educator training is sold to teachers and schools, not to students.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date below. If a change is significant and affects people who've already registered, we'll email them rather than rely on you noticing.
